Shoor repair maintenance

The Indian Coast Guard ICGS SHOOR, the second ship in the series of six offshore patrol vessels (OPV), was commissioned at Goa by Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, on April 11, 2016. Shoor, meaning ‘Valiant’, is a projection of ICG’s will and commitment ‘to serve and protect’ the maritime interest. This 105-metre OPV has been designed and built indigenously by GSL and is fitted with most advanced navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machinery. The features include 30mm CRN 91 naval gun, integrated bridge system (IBS), integrated machinery control system (IMCS), power management system (PMS) and high-power external firefighting system. The ship is designed to carry one twin-engine light helicopter and five high speed boats including two QRIBs for fast boarding operations, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol. The ship draws 2,350 tonnes (GRT) and is propelled by two 9,100 kW diesel engines to attain a maximum speed of 23 knots. It has an endurance of 6,000 nm at economical speed. The sustenance and reach coupled with the latest and modern equipment and systems provides her the capability to perform the role of a command platform and accomplish all the Indian Coast Guard charter of duties. The vessel SHOOR underwent critical maintenance at Goa Shipyard Ltd involving the complete overhauling of its pump system, removed casing, carried out guages, renewed parts, cleaned impeller rings and wear rings, replaced mechanical seals soft packing, bearing of all seals, balanced rotating assembly, assembled pump, checked alignment, painted pumps, replaced spider and finally carried out trail of the pump . The work was carried out under Work Order 502896 dated 10.04.2019 and completed on 01-09-2019. This overhaul ensured the pump’s operational reliability, extended service life, and readiness for continued operations.
